Attachment

A three part module introducing the science of attachment.

Attachment
welcome

Workshop Description:

Why do some people get overwhelmed in intimate relationships? Why do others retreat from intimacy? This workshop introduces one of the most important psychological ideas of recent years: attachment theory. We explore why the pioneering work of John Bowlby on attachment matters to all of us - in our friendships; our romantic relationships; in our roles as parents and even at work. We look at what helps us to change our insecure attachment styles. We examine the links between attachment and evolutionary theory and how we develop “internal working models” of what we anticipate in relationships when we seek care and intimacy.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the origins of attachment theory, and why it matters.
  2. Describe the four main attachment styles, and their impact on the lives of their clients.
  3. Apply new ways of helping our clients move from insecure to earned secure attachment styles.
